Kick start your passion for rugby!
Roaring Rugby teaches children the core skills of rugby whilst developing valuable life skills; like teamwork, sportsmanship and respect. Since launching in 2011, Roaring Rugby has grown exponentially and continues to coach over 1000 children a week across thirty primary schools in four counties across the South West.
Roaring Rugby: What’s involved?
Roaring Rugby was set up in 2011 in the south west to provide an innovative, exciting, fun and progressive brand of rugby coaching and programmes aimed at children aged between five and eleven and working within primary schools and once established then linking with local rugby clubs to offer rugby camps and player pathways and a continued love for the game. The focus of the organisation was to provide a different more progressive form of coaching for children, one where fun was first alongside a structured, achievable and collectible set of copyright awards. Initial uptake was strong and with local support from headteachers, parents and children helped establish the business quickly. After a year of operations, Roaring Rugby had attracted five regular schools with over three hundred children being coached and in our second financial year the business grew by a further 300%. The 2015/16 academic year will be our 5th in business and we recently completed the UK Government’s ‘Growth Accelerator’ scheme aimed at developing high growth business in the UK which has given us a new vision for the future in implementing strategy, innovation and continued success.
What do we do?
The Big Cat programme
Founding director Chris Andrew worked alongside some of the very best professional rugby players at Bath Rugby between 2005 and 2011. He was part of a very small and highly skilled team whose job was to work with children at the award winning Bath Rugby Education Centre. This was like a ‘classroom within the clubhouse’ where children would meet the 1st team players, access all areas of the REC and actually feel what it would be like to run out of the tunnel whilst building self-esteem, confidence and independent learning. Roaring Rugby was then born in 2011 and recently Neil Jones, a year 5/6 teacher summed up our work perfectly with “rugby has really received a boost in Year 5 and 6 through the clear vision of Roaring Rugby. I have no doubt that introducing and reinforcing the core values of the game of rugby through a fun range of activities and games will benefit the whole sports curriculum. Pupils are really enthused by the excellent coaching and rewards system and they now want to challenge themselves further by participating in competitive rugby events with other schools. Hopefully we might be sowing the seeds for some future rugby stars!”
"There were children of varying skill levels and ages ranging from under 7 to under 12, and despite this, Roaring Rugby were able to put together a meaningful, fun packed program the children loved and parents felt they got excellent value for money."− Steve Allen, Head of Mini Section Salisbury RFC
"I would wholeheartedly recommend Roaring Rugby as the children love coming to the sessions and parents have been incredibly supportive of this initiative. "I would firstly like to thank you and your team for giving my son the opportunity to have a taster of rugby through the roaring rugby camp at Chipping Sodbury RFC. He enjoyed learning new things and was just as excited to go on day 2 than he was on day 1! "− Tracey Brooker, Parent
"My grandson’s joined Roaring Rugby at Crudwell C of E Primary School, they say it's the best fun they have ever had, and I love going to watch them, the children are so enthusiastic and keen to join in, so it must be brilliant fun for them. Well done, Coach"− Noelle Hulle, Grandparent
"Elliot loves Roaring Rugby. A great environment for not only learning great rugby skills, but also respect and teamwork. What’s not to like?"− Gill Webb, Parent
